Highway Hearts

I often wonder about the reasons why people are on the road late at night.

Are they driving towards something? Do they love company amongst the moon and stars?

There are not many of us. We are scattered bursts of white and erratic flashes of red.
The heater quietly whirring to the soft keys of my piano playlist.
I let the heat crawl over my collarbone and kiss my earlobes.
The most affection I can hope for right now.

And I wonder if anyone out there drives for the same reason I do:
heartbroken on the highway.
